Fluid Bed Gasifier

The reactor in which gasification process occurs is called gasifier. Based on the type of contact between the solid fuel and gasifying agent different reactor design such as entrained flow, fixed bed and fluidized bed gasifiers are there. In a fluidized bed gasifier, a bed of granular inert materials along with solid fuel to be gasified are packed into the gasifier and fluidized. There are two different configurations of fluidized bed gasifier

Bubbling fluidized bed gasifier : in this type, the bed material is fluidized or agitated by gases flowing through the bed.
Circulating fluidized bed gasifier : here the bed material circulates between the riser and down-comer sections of the gasifier.
Generally to achieve high thermal capacity > 5MWth, fluidized bed gasifiers are used.
